Applications for the Virginia Tech Evening MBA program are submitted electronically through the Virginia Tech Graduate School application system. The full application process takes about an hour to complete. You may save entered information and return to the application system at your own pace. 

REQUIRED MATERIALS

To complete and submit your application, the following application materials are required:

  • Completed online application form
  • A copy of the official results of your GMAT or GRE or GMAT/GRE Waiver Form (please note that waivers are not guaranteed). FALL 2020 UPDATE: We know that flexibility is more important now than ever before. Given this, we will now be considering all Evening MBA applicants for a test score waiver for the Fall 2020 semester only. Should you wish to be considered for a waiver, simply submit your completed online application. If the admission committee determines that an applicant needs to present test scores in order to further demonstrate their quantitative skills, we will notify the applicant upon review of their application.
  • A scanned copy of official transcripts from all universities or colleges, where degree was conferred (NOTE: Virginia Tech students do not need to submit official transcripts)
  • A copy of your resume
  • One letter of reference required (a second letter is optional)
  • Required essay
    • Please describe your short and long term goals, citing your strengths and weaknesses in achieving those goals. Discuss an experience, either professionally or personally, that has had a profound impact on your career path. (500 word limit)
  • Optional essay
    • What other information do you believe is important in the assessment of your candidacy to our MBA program?
  • Academic and professional goals statement (as required for all Virginia Tech graduate students)
    • Applicants are asked to provide a 1 - 2 page, double-spaced personal statement which includes the following:
      • Why do you want to undertake graduate work now?
      • Why at Virginia Tech?
      • What do you expect to derive from your program of study?
      • What do you expect to contribute as a student and subsequently as a member of the profession?
  • A non-refundable $75 application fee

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

CREATING AN ACCOUNT

  • Go to the Graduate School application system site
  • Click the 'Create a New Account" link. Once you confirm your email address, you will receive another email with a temporary password.
  • Login with your email and temporary password
  • You will be prompted to create a new password
  • Fill in your profile information and submit to reach your home screen

STARTING YOUR APPLICATION

Your home screen will show you four sections:

  1. Profile
  2. Academic History
  3. Your Application(s)
  4. Other File Uploads

To start your application:

  • Click the 'Create a New Application' link under Section 3 - 'Your Application(s)'
  • Select your application type (e.g. 'First Time Graduate Study' or 'Commonwealth Campus')
  • Select 'Business Administration' as your program
  • Select 'Evening MBA' as your program option
  • Select 'MBA' as your degree type
  • Select 'National Capital Region' as your campus
  • Select your application term
  • Click submit

COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION

There are three required sections:

  1. Profile
  2. Academic History
  3. Your Application

1. PROFILE

  • Complete all fields as required as well as any relevant supplemental fields
  • If you need to return to this section at a later date, be sure to click 'save' at the bottom of the application screen. You do not need to complete all required fields in order to save your progress.
  • Click 'validate' at the bottom of the page to ensure you are not missing any required fields
  • Click 'save' at the bottom of the page to save your information and return to your home page

Important information:

  • International applicants must apply using their legal name exactly as it appears on their passport
  • Returning VT Students must supply your VT student ID number (PID)
  • Permanent Residents [PR] must supply a copy of PR regstration card
  • Non-U.S. citizens must have a visa
  • While the Evening MBA has a universal tuition rate, in-state residents do receive lower university fee rates. If you live in VA, please be sure to submit the in-state tuition questionnaire.

2. ACADEMIC HISTORY

  • Follow instructions on the page to submit your academic history and relevant test scores
  • You will be required to submit a scanned copy of your official transcript(s)
  • If you need to return to this section at a later date, be sure to click 'save' at the bottom of the application screen. You do not need to complete all required fields in order to save your progress.

3. YOUR APPLICATION

  • Complete all required fields on the application as well as any relevant supplemental fields

RETURNING TO YOUR APPLICATION

  • Go to the Graduate School application system site
  • Login with your email address and the password you created to reach your home page
  • Click 'edit' under 'Actions' in Section 3 - 'Your Application(s)'

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION

  • Click 'validate' at the bottom of each section page to ensure there is no missing information in your application
  • Click 'submit' under 'Actions' in Section 3 - 'Your Application(s)'
  • Certify the accuracy of the information provided in your application
  • Pay the non-refundable application fee ($75) or enter your application fee waiver code

RECOMMENDATION LETTERS

Your recommender(s) will receive an email invitation to submit their recommendation letter after you have submitted your application. Please note that recommendation letters do not need to be submitted by the application deadline. There is a short grace period for receipt of your recommendation letter(s) and other supporting documentation.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION

Applicants who are accepted for admission and intend to enroll will need to send an official transcript(s) showing conferral of their degree(s) to the MBA Program Office at:

Please send your GMAT score to the Northern VA Center / Falls Church, VA - ETS Institution Code 5859. Select VT - NVC when registering for the GMAT exam. For additional information on the exam, please visit http://www.mba.com/us/the-gmat-exam.aspx.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

  • Students with undergraduate degrees from universities outside the U.S. should also submit a report from a credential evaluation service that converts grades into a grade point average (GPA) with a course by course break down of their degree. The university will accept evaluations done by any credentialing agency listed on the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services web site http://www.naces.org/members.html
  • TOEFL scores are required of all international students whose first language is not English, except those applicants who have graduated from an accredited university where English is the language of instruction
