Here we provide some basic instructions for applying to the Virginia Tech Graduate School and the Evening MBA program. We recommend the fairly simple online application, and we suggest you keep this browser window open while filling out the online application so that you can refer to these instructions as needed.

Below is a summary of the process:

  1. Create an account (be sure to record your user name and password).
  2. Complete the application form. You will need the username/password that you created in step one. You can save your account and access it later.
  3. Submit your application and pay the fee.

Please include the following items where applicable:

  • Attach a scanned copy of official transcripts from all universities or colleges, where degree was conferred (NOTE: Virginia Tech students do not need to submit official transcripts.)
  • A copy of your resume
  • One letter of reference required, second letter is optional.
  • A copy of the official results of your GMAT (Preferred score 600 or better) or GRE (Preferred score 154 or better, based on the 130-170 GRE Score Scale) OR GMAT/GRE Waiver Form (please note that waivers are not guaranteed)
  • Required essay: How will you be challenged in a MBA program and what personal characteristics or professional experience will ultimately enable you to be successful in a MBA program? Optional essay for all applicants: What other information do you believe is important in the assessment of your candidacy to our MBA program?
  • A non-refundable application fee payable in US dollars
  • An application for in-state tuition (optional)

Step 1 - Creating Your Account

Access the Create Your Account form and fill it out completely. Be sure to follow the rules for creating your user name and password. VT gets a number of applicants, so don't be surprised if you need to change your user name. A new screen will present your user name and password when they are accepted. Write them down. Don't forget them.

Part 1: Enrollment Information

Give the details of the program that you are applying for.
Important information:

  • Select Application Type ex: {"First Time Graduate Study"}
  • Please select a Program : Select "Business Administration"
  • Please select a Program Option: Select "Evening MBA"
  • Please select a Degree Type: Select "MBA"

Give the details about yourself.

Important information:

  • International Applicants must apply using their legal name exactly as it appears on their passport.
  • Returning VT Students: Supply your VT Student ID number
  • Citizenship: Permanent Resident [PR] - (Copy of PR Registration Card Required), Non-Resident Alien - (Visa Required)

Give the details about your academic history.

Important information:

  • Use the "Search" button beside an empty field to find the college or university.
  • Enter all undergraduate and graduate education you have received.
  • Understand your right to waive access to academic records.

Part 4: Request for Graduate In-state Tuition Sample (Click sample to enlarge)

Give the details about your official Virginia residency.

Important information:

  • Supply two years worth of past home addresses for residency information.
  • Answer all "Yes/No" questions.
  • Check the box at the end of the form certifying the accuracy of your information.

Give the details about your official immigration status.

Step 3 - Submitting Your Application

On Page 3, finish filling out your information and then click on "Pay, Save, and Send" if you are sure that your application is complete and accurate. Then you may select your online payment option and finish your application. Upload a copy of your unofficial transcript(s).

Applicants who are accepted for admission and who decide to come to VT should then send an official transcript (showing conferral of their degree) to the MBA Program Office before they enroll (addresses below).

Please send your GMAT score to the Northern VA Center / Falls Church, VA - ETS Institution Code 5859. Select VT - NVC when registering for the GMAT exam. For additional information on the exam, please visit http://www.mba.com/us/the-gmat-exam.aspx.

For the GRE option the code for Virginia Tech is 5859. For additional information about the exam, please visit http://www.ets.org/gre/.

Virginia Tech's MBA Program has a rolling admissions process.

Important information for International Students

  • Students with undergraduate degrees from universities outside the U.S. should also submit a report from a credential evaluation service that converts grades into a grade point average (GPA) with a course by course break down of their degree. The university will accept evaluations done by any credentialing agency listed on the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services web site http://www.naces.org/members.html
  • TOEFL scores are required of all international students whose first language is not English, except those applicants who have graduated from an accredited university where English is the language of instruction
